It's a Wrap!

The holidays are here! It is hard to believe we are wrapping up another year. We are so looking forward to 2012 as we expand our showroom.  More kitchen vignettes for you to see as well as appliances for every budget.

We hope that as you prepare your holiday dinners, you will think about using the convection mode on your ovens or ranges to speed up the cooking process. Use your warming drawers to keep your meals warm and of course those dishwashers will be loaded and unloaded many times.

Not only am I wrapping all my gifts, I am also wrapping up another successful year of events. We hosted many charity functions and I look forward to working with the organizations who will be hosting their events with us. We are employing more chefs for variety as we continue to expand our cooking class schedule.

All of us wish all of you the happiest of holidays and we wish you all good things for 2012. Follow us on facebook to see our progress.

See you in the New Year!
Until then – Happy Cooking!

I'm in Love With My Dacor Warming Drawer

It’s the season that I fall in love all over again with my Dacor warming drawer!

As a member of my kitchen appliances, I have to say it is one of my favorites. I can actually prepare all my side dishes ahead of time, place them in my good china and even clean my cookware before my guests arrive for the Thanksgiving feast. All those side dishes stay hot, don’t dry out and the warming draw doesn’t harm my china. I no longer have to face that mashed potato pot at the end of the evening. Believe it or not, sometimes I just warm my plates in order for my dinner to stay warm once plated. For those of you who have warming drawers, make sure you utilize them to full capacity.

Some clients have even incorporated warming drawers in their bathrooms to keep towels warm. The warming drawers are available to accept panels to match your cabinetry.

If you are thinking about a kitchen or bathroom renovation, you may want to consider a warming drawer. I love mine!

Until next time- Happy Cooking!

The Bustle of the Holidays are Upon Us

I went to get my haircut this morning and the discussion was all about the upcoming holiday season. We talked about who was going where and who was cooking what. It led me into a discussion about how the preparation can be a bit simplified by the process of convection.

Some people were amazed at how you can cook many of your side dishes and desserts all at the same time. You can even cook some of your sides along with your turkey if there is enough room. It seems that many people purchase ovens with great features such as convection and don’t ever use them. Convection is the way to go. It is nothing more than circulating hot air by a fan system which results in no flavor transfer. This way of cooking enables you to do multi-level cooking.

If you are in the market for a new oven, make sure you ask about convection. Almost all the brands offer that feature on their ovens or ranges. Some popular brands are Electrolux, Thermador, Wolf, Dacor, GE, Bosch, and Frigidaire. If you purchase an oven or range from us, we will give you a complimentary convection cooking class with a professional chef. That is always informational and a delightful dinner treat.

Until next time – Happy Cooking!

Bring on the Bird!

Thanksgiving is around the corner and the phone is ringing about how to cook the perfect turkey.  So many clients have purchased the Electrolux oven with the “Perfect Turkey” button.  Can you imagine that with the wave of your hand, the oven comes alive?  The wave control panel and the features of this oven can promise you will have a juicy, golden brown turkey with the flick of a wrist.

The Electrolux oven has a perfect turkey feature that promises you and your guests a bird to feast on.  The oven comes with a probe that gets inserted to the meaty part of the turkey around the thigh joint.  Once you have prepared your turkey for the oven, just place the probe, touch the perfect turkey button and cook to an internal temperature of 180 degrees.  No need to tent the bird.  Make sure you put the turkey on a rack in your roasting pan and place on the easy glide rack.  Even better, there is no need to pre heat with the perfect turkey button.

Now think about the extra time you have to prepare those scrumptious side dishes.  With the convection mode on your ovens, you can do multi level cooking with no flavor transfer.  Imagine baking your apple pie at the same time as your creamed cauliflower!

For the lucky people who have these features on their ovens, it certainly is something to be thankful for.

Happy Cooking!

A Big Heart & Generosity

Wow! What an event we had here in Appliance World’s showroom on Tuesday evening. We hosted a charity function for Girls Inc., a support program for young girls that has been in existence since the late 1800’s.  The group encourages girls to be strong, smart and bold. They show girls how to discover and get excited about their potential.

What can I say except that our community has a huge heart. Our local restaurants and bakeries donated their time, their culinary expertise and fabulous food. Mascali of East Northport was putting on a fabulous show with his flaming shrimp, great baked clams and the most delicious eggplant rollatini. Rookies of Huntington was here with their famous wings and pigs in the blanket. Honu Kitchen and Cocktails created a fabulous duck appetizer as well as a most delicious butternut squash soup. Old Fields Inn decorated the kitchen beyond belief and made home-style Manhattan clam chowder along with brioche rolls filled with sausage and peppers. A Rise Above does go above and beyond with their homemade cookies. They always contribute to our fund raising events. Kathleen King, one of the honorees, donated cookies from her company Tate’s Cookies. Starbucks never fails to provide us with their great coffee.

We are so fortunate to work with such great businesses. Once again, we were able to raise a significant amount of money for the organization due to the generosity of these establishments. Be mindful, that 100% of the money goes to the charity organization.

My suggestion:  Frequent these restaurants if you are thinking about going out to dinner or lunch. You will experience great food prepared by the most generous and kind people. It’s all about giving back.

Until next time – Happy Cooking!

The Beauty of Natural Stone

Along with the kitchen renovations at Appliance World, comes the selection of counter tops.

As I was browsing in the stone yards looking to select granite for counter tops to match cabinetry and incorporate our stainless steel Wolf / Subzero and Electrolux appliances, I marveled at the beauty of these natural stones. When I studied the slabs carefully, it amazed me as I looked at the different variations in the stone. I stood there wondering what took place in our earth’s crust to create the different patterns.

The selections were beautiful and vast from all over the world. I looked at slabs from Brazil, India, Australia and Africa to name a few places. As beautiful as a new kitchen can be, the counter top is truly the crowning glory. We are looking to create a WOW factor when you come to see our new kitchens. It is fun being part of the selection process for our new displays. We will keep you updated and give you sneak previews as we move forward with our renovations.

Until next time – Happy Cooking!

A Business Dinner Alternative

Calling all businesses... Did you know you could host a business dinner in one of Appliance World's “live” kitchens?

What a fun alternative to the usual business dinner! Plan a menu, choose a chef, let your clients or business partners roll up their sleeves and be an interactive part of the dinner preparation. Entertaining your clients in a “just like home atmosphere” can be so much fun. No longer is there pressure for conversation. It happens automatically through the use of recipes. It is an easy way for each person to get to know one another. You can be as creative as you like with the menus and you don’t have to think about a restaurant having to turn the table.

Our calendar does get booked, so if you think you would like to entertain the thought just give us a call.  We will be happy to provide you with the details. Call 631 418-1009 and ask for Pat.  Remember the holidays are just around the corner.

Until next time – Happy Cooking!

The time has come for Appliance World's demolition and renovations. Walls are coming down and the jackhammers will be working through the night to begin the process of installing our new state of the art Gaggenau Center.  We are very excited about this “live” cooking center. It definitely is worth following our progress. We will be posting pictures on our Facebook page. Would enjoy hearing your comments.

The Power of Steam

Technology never ceases to amaze me!

Steam dryers generate real steam to reduce wrinkles and odors and practically eliminate the need for ironing. For someone like me, who does not like to iron and doesn’t like wrinkles, the LG TrueSteam ultra large capacity Steam Dryer with a Never Rust Stainless Steel Drum is a dream come true.

What I have learned is that this dryer has a Steam Fresh Cycle that refreshes and reduces wrinkles in up to 5 garments at a time within one 20 minute dryer cycle. What I further found out is that this particular LG dryer has a Steam Sanitizer Cycle to safely sanitize items marked as non-washable. That means you can clean items such as throw pillows or children’s toys. Who would ever think of putting children’s toys in the dryer!

If you need to replace your dryer or are looking for state of the art laundry appliances, I strongly suggest you look at the new LG laundry washers and dryers which we have on display at Appliance World.

Until next time – think wrinkle free!

Our New Arrival

She’s here and she’s a beauty! Our newest addition to our showroom is La Cornue.

You must take a peek at this absolutely exquisite 60” white with brass trim range from France. It is the ultimate cooking appliance.

Calling all designers to come and see our La Cornue display. We will be posting the photos for all to see. It was amazing to see how each custom range is packed as to insure that it arrives in perfect condition. It was a whole process to unpack and install the range, matching cabinetry, and hood. It looks stunning against the dark green showroom wall. It truly is an eye catching display.

Each La Cornue is custom built to your own discerning taste. Each piece can also be monogrammed with your name, initials or whatever you choose. There is a huge array of colors to choose from as well as trim choices. If you want a WOW focal point in your kitchen that is a totally custom piece, La Cornue is the one for you. The ranges do come in different sizes to fit your cooking space.

If you are looking for something not quite as expensive yet offers you many color and trim options, La Cornue has a sister the CornuFe which we also have on display. It’s worth a trip into Huntington to stop by and take a look. Our team will be happy to show you its features.

Calamari with a Twist

Corporate Chef Eric Morales from Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau was recently in our showroom doing a product demonstration. He continues to WOW our clients with his culinary expertise. I thought I would like to share his calamari recipe with you because it does have a unique twist to it. It always comes out perfect in our Gaggenau deep fryer.

Give it a whirl and let me know what you think.

FRIED CALAMARI

INGREDIENTS:
  • Calamari
  • Mixture of half flour and half GRAHAM CRACKER CRUMBS (ah! The secret ingredient)
  • Sauce: Mayonnaise, anchovy paste, fresh lemon juice, parsley, chopped garlic
  • Oil for frying such as canola, peanut, vegetable, or Mel fry - not olive oil
DIRECTIONS:
Make sauce ahead of time. No set amounts just prepare to individual taste. Mix together mayo, anchovy paste, fresh lemon juice, parsley and chopped garlic.

Make sure the calamari is cleaned. Heat oil in deep fryer.

Organized Chaos

So many things are happening all at once.

Just to keep you apprised of all the activities going on, I will start with the painting of the LaCornue center. It is starting to look absolutely beautiful! The green is definitely going to make the white and brass range pop.

Our website is always under construction trying to keep up with what is current. That is a difficult task; however we have a great mass media marketing person, Jeanne Murphy, handling all the updates to make us contemporary.

The District Sales Manager from Gaggenau was in today bringing us up to date on the new Gaggenau center that will be installed. A designers dream!

Our autumn calendar is completely full with product demonstrations, cooking classes, fund raisers and renovations. NARI, National Association of Remodelers, which we are a member, is hosting their dinner/holiday meeting here in Dec. Our manufacturer’s corporate chefs will be cooking away for their dining pleasure.

I haven’t even touched upon new products, expansion, warranty packages, new procedures, new sales consultants, advertising and all that goes with running a successful business. We are pleased to say we continue to grow and move forward in a positive way. We have a great team here at Appliance World and no matter what we are like family, looking out for each others needs. Great company to work for!

Until next time,  Keep Smiling!

It’s all about the Shine and Twinkle

My niece was visiting over the weekend and remarked about how shiny my stainless steel appliances looked, especially my Subzero refrigerator.

She is a mother of a 20 month old and a newborn. You can well imagine the fingerprints on that refrigerator. The future is not looking much better for her refrigerator as the newborn comes into her own. Her day is consumed with caring for her family, so I gave her a tip. There are many products on the market; however we recommend a product called Twinkle.

We have a huge display of stainless steel appliances as well as 5 “live” kitchens in our
Huntington showroom. They are constantly full of fingerprints. Twinkle to the rescue. We spray a small amount on a soft cloth or paper towel and rub with the grain of the stainless; thus no streaking. (Did you know that there is a grain in the stainless?) The most difficult fingerprints are gone in a flash.

I gave her a can and she called me so excited about how much better her refrigerator looks. It’s the little things in life that sometimes make us the happiest.

You too can be proud of how well your appliances look. Come on in and purchase a can of Twinkle for $25. It lasts quite a long time. It might be one of the best purchases you have ever made.

Until next time: Keep Shining!

East Meets West

We just changed out one of Appliance World's “live” kitchens to all Dacor appliances. Are they beautiful!  It is a well known brand on the west coast. They're American made and the home office is in California

I have been a Dacor owner since 1997. I must tell you, in that time I have moved, and continued to purchase Dacor. I love the look and how they function.

I am excited about working with our new representative and doing “live” product demonstrations. We just put Oct. 20th on the calendar at 6:30 pm.

It is our intention to have Dacor as a household word.

Happy Cooking!

Sleek and Contemporary

Our new Gaggenau Center is going to be a designers dream!

We spent the afternoon selecting beautiful, contemporary cabinetry to enhance our Gaggenau appliances.  We're excited about being one of the few Gaggenau Design Centers on the East Coast. Wait until you see the sleek look! All the appliances will be “live” and the corporate chef will be able to demonstrate how each one functions.

We encourage all designers to come take a look when the center is complete at the end of the year. I will certainly keep you posted on that.

By the way, Corporate Chef Eric makes the most amazing ribs in the Gaggenau steam oven. Our clients absolutely love these ribs. It’s all about the steam. Once our new kitchen is done, Chef Eric will be able to show off his culinary expertise on a grander scale. Check our website for product demonstrations

Until next time – Happy Cooking

Farm Fresh and Healthy

Tis the season for farm fresh produce at your local farm stands. Courtesy of Margaret, from our inner office, I am sharing with you a light and healthy lunch. Who would ever think about stuffing zucchini blossoms?   Well here you go.

  • Stuff zucchini blossoms with a small amount of ricotta cheese and a small piece of mozzarella cheese.  (Optional:  add an anchovy to the stuffing)
  • Dip in pancake flour, then a beaten egg, and finally roll in Italian seasoned bread crumbs.
  • Fry in extra virgin olive oil.  Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve with a beautifully ripened sliced tomato topped with fresh basil.
What could be better? How about a glass of pinot grigio for you white wine lovers or a glass of montepulciano for you red wine lovers? Both can be chilled to the perfect temperature using the SubZero wine storage system featuring dual temperature controls.

Enjoy!

Until tomorrow – Happy cooking!
